An airplane carrying 15 people, including a Colombian lawmaker, has crashed near Colombia’s border with Venezuela, killing all passengers and crew, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
The aircraft, a Beechcraft 1900 twin-propeller plane operated by state airline Satena, took off from the border city of Cúcuta and lost contact with air traffic control shortly before it was due to land in nearby Ocaña around midday local time.
Colombia’s civil aviation authority told AFP that there were no survivors from the crash.
Among the 13 passengers and two crew members were Diógenes Quintero, a member of Colombia’s Chamber of Representatives, and Carlos Salcedo, a candidate in the upcoming elections.
Local authorities deployed the Colombian Air Force and other emergency services to locate the wreckage in the remote, mountainous region of Norte de Santander, an area with difficult terrain and rapidly changing weather patterns.
