ATLETICO MADRID AGREE €40M DEAL TO SIGN NIGERIA’S ADEMOLA LOOKMAN

Atletico Madrid on Sunday confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Italian club Atalanta for the transfer of Nigerian international Ademola Lookman.
In a statement, the Spanish club said the deal for the 28-year-old winger has been agreed between both sides, with the player already in Madrid.
“(The clubs) have agreed to the transfer of 28-year-old Nigerian international Ademola Lookman, who is already in Madrid,” Atletico said.
“The agreement is pending a medical examination and the signing of his contract,” the club added.
Although financial details were not officially disclosed, media reports suggest Atletico will pay around €40 million ($47.5 million) for the forward.
Lookman rose to global prominence after scoring a memorable hat-trick as Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen to win the Europa League in 2024. He also played a key role in Nigeria’s impressive run to the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The winger has scored three goals in 19 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta this season.
Born in London, Lookman began his professional career at Charlton Athletic before moving to Everton. He later joined RB Leipzig permanently in 2019 after an initial loan spell, but went on to feature for Fulham and Leicester City on loan before signing for Atalanta in 2022.
His arrival is expected to bolster Atletico Madrid’s attacking options, with coach Diego Simeone having called for reinforcements following the departures of Giacomo Raspadori to Atalanta and Conor Gallagher to Tottenham earlier in the winter transfer window.
Atletico have struggled for goals in recent weeks, with striker Julian Álvarez currently on an 11-match goal drought in La Liga, a situation Lookman is expected to help address.
