A High Court in Nasarawa State has sentenced Saidu Idi to death by hanging for the killing of Hardo Adamu Buli during a robbery operation in Kokona Local Government Area in 2015.
The judgment was delivered by the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Justice Aisha Mohammed Usman, after the court found Idi guilty of armed robbery and culpable homicide, both punishable by death under the law. He was, however, discharged on the charge of criminal conspiracy.
Speaking after the ruling, the Nasarawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Isaac Danladi, described the judgment as a demonstration that justice can be served without fear or favour and a strong deterrent against violent crime.
According to Danladi, the victim was shot in the navel before being robbed of his valuables and money, with evidence showing that the killing preceded the robbery.
Justice Usman affirmed that the prosecution had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt, holding Idi responsible for the unlawful death of Buli. The sentence aligns with the provisions of Nasarawa State criminal law.
The ruling closes a criminal case that had lingered since 2015 and is being hailed as a strong signal of the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the rule of law. The Nasarawa State Government reiterated its pledge to protect lives and property, warning that armed robbery offenders would continue to face the full force of the law.
