Access Bank Plc has paid glowing tribute to its former Group Managing Director, Dr. Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, two years after his death, while also honouring the memory of his wife, Doreen, and their son, Chizi.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, the bank described Wigwe as a visionary leader whose legacy continues to shape the institution’s culture, values and future direction.

“Two years on, the absence of Dr. Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe remains deeply felt across the organisation and the wider financial community,” the bank said. “A visionary leader, he shaped Access with courage, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”

Access Bank noted that Wigwe’s influence remains evident in the standards the institution upholds and the culture of excellence that continues to define its operations.

“His legacy lives on in the values we uphold, the standards we protect, and the future we continue to build,” the statement added.

The bank also remembered the loss of Wigwe’s wife, Doreen, and their son, Chizi, describing their passing as profound and deeply felt by the entire Access community.

“As we remember Dr. Wigwe today, we also remember his beloved wife, Doreen, and their son, Chizi. Their loss is profound, and they remain forever in our hearts,” the statement read.

Dr. Wigwe, who led Access Bank through a period of significant growth and transformation, was instrumental in positioning the institution as one of Nigeria’s most respected financial brands, known for innovation, integrity and customer-focused service.

The tribute, the bank said, serves as a reminder of Wigwe’s enduring impact on the financial sector and the strong legacy of leadership and excellence he left behind.
