Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), has partnered with United Nigeria Airlines to provide industrial training for the university’s engineering students through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The Vice-Chancellor of ABUAD, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, explained that the collaboration will give students practical, industry-focused experience in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering. Speaking at the MoU signing in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, she said, “Under this agreement, about 20 final-year students from our College of Engineering will participate annually in the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme at United Nigeria Airlines. The programme is designed to run for a renewable 10-year term without financial burden on the university, creating long-term opportunities for skills development, knowledge transfer, and the training of a new generation of Nigerian aerospace professionals.”
Prof. Olarinde praised United Nigeria Airlines founder, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, for recognizing educational excellence beyond geographical boundaries and investing in the development of young talent.
In his remarks, Okonkwo described the partnership as a reflection of ABUAD’s reputation for quality and highlighted the support of the university’s Chancellor, Aare Afe Babalola, in the success of the Ekiti Agro-Allied Cargo International Airport. He said, “We are here to share knowledge, a powerful tool, and open all our airline facilities to ABUAD students for practical learning. Over time, we will explore additional ways to enhance engineer training internally.”
