Former Big Brother Naija housemate and comedian, DeeOne, has criticized the Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of being unwilling to invest financially in his political ambition.

In a viral Instagram video shared on Saturday morning, DeeOne made the remarks while reacting to the launch of the City Boy Movement — a political support group backing President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

The group, founded by the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, reportedly has several prominent Peter Obi supporters serving as coordinators and directors across many South-East states.

Reacting to the development, comedian DeeOne urged Peter Obi to raise his political strategy by being prepared to spend money, alleging that some of Obi’s agents during the 2023 election were reportedly sponsored by rival political parties at polling units.

Criticizing Obi’s popular slogan, “We no dey give shishi,” DeeOne argued that sympathy votes would not be enough to secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.

He said: “If you truly want Mr. Peter Obi to succeed in the 2027 election, then we must be honest with him. You cannot win a presidential election based on sympathy votes. It may have given him some advantage previously, but it will not be effective in 2027.

“I’m not saying you shouldn’t buy groundnuts or bargain for them, Mr. Peter Obi, but those tactics will no longer work. The biggest mistake he or his supporters can make is underestimating the City Boy Movement. Look at the effort they’re putting in — it’s serious. A presidential election is not just talk; you have to demonstrate real structure and groundwork.”

“In the last U.S. election, Donald Trump reportedly invested $66 million of his personal funds. The authorities prohibit vote buying, not legitimate campaign spending. During the previous election here, Labour Party agents at polling units allegedly had no water or food — how does that make sense? If Mr. Peter Obi cannot personally fund his ambition, then he should appeal to his supporters for donations and provide transparency on how the money is used, rather than insisting ‘we no dey spend shishi.’

“You claim you’re not spending any money, but are you the one on the ground risking your life to monitor and count votes? People are making those sacrifices; the least they deserve is basic welfare. It was even alleged that agents from other parties provided food and water to Labour Party representatives during the last election — and evidence can be presented if necessary. My people, being honest with Mr. Peter Obi doesn’t mean you dislike him; it means you want him to perform better in the next election.
