‘HIS EXCELLENCY’ MUST REFLECT PERFORMANCE, PETER OBI TELLS NIGERIAN OFFICIALS

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged prospective Nigerian leaders to demonstrate genuine compassion for the welfare of the people.
Obi emphasized that anyone aspiring to be called ‘His Excellency’ must exemplify excellence.
He made the remarks on Saturday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during a gathering of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Obidient Movement.
Highlighting the need for national unity, Obi called on all Nigerians to collaborate as one family toward building a renewed and prosperous Nigeria.
The former Anambra State governor stated that Nigerian politics should transition from mere consumption to productive engagement, leveraging the nation’s resources to generate wealth and opportunities for all citizens.
“Nigeria must be led by leaders who are competent, compassionate, and committed — those who prioritize development, security, education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and youth empowerment.
“But this requires a renewal of character and accountability. Aspirants for the title ‘honourable’ must act honourably; those seeking to be called ‘His Excellency’ must embody excellence; and those aiming to be ‘distinguished’ must live distinguished lives.
“Let this set the standard for our leaders and serve as a guiding principle for every citizen dedicated to the nation’s progress,” Obi stated.
