The Central Bank of Nigeria has urged bank customers to safeguard their financial information by refusing to share passwords, PINs, or other sensitive banking details with anyone.
The warning comes as the world observes Global Money Week 2026, amid growing concerns over increasing cases of fraud and scams targeting unsuspecting bank customers.
In a post on its official X handle, the apex bank cautioned Nigerians to remain vigilant and protect their personal banking information, stressing that even individuals claiming to be bank officials should not be trusted with such details.
“Protect your money by protecting your information. As we mark Global Money Week 2026, remember: your PINs, passwords, and banking details should never be shared with anyone, not even someone claiming to be from your bank. Stay alert. Stay safe,” the bank stated.

The warning follows a surge in fraud cases where scammers impersonate bank officials through phone calls, text messages, and emails to trick customers into revealing sensitive financial information.
According to the CBN, protecting personal banking details is a key step in preventing financial losses and ensuring safe banking practices.
The advisory also encouraged customers to regularly monitor their bank accounts, use only official banking channels, and promptly report any suspicious activity.
Global Money Week is an annual international campaign aimed at promoting financial literacy, responsible money management, and consumer protection. It is observed worldwide, including in Nigeria, with a focus on encouraging safe and secure banking practices.
