The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast dust haze and sunshine across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
The agency disclosed this in its weather outlook released in Abuja on Sunday.
NiMet stated that moderate dust haze is expected over parts of Kebbi and Kano States in the northern region on Monday, with horizontal visibility ranging between two to five kilometers, while other northern states will experience sunny and hazy conditions.
NiMet said, “For the central region, moderate dust haze is forecast over parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State. The remaining states in the zone are expected to remain sunny and hazy throughout the period.”
In the southern region, the agency predicted sunny skies with occasional cloud patches, alongside afternoon and evening thunderstorms with light rains over Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
“On Tuesday, a slight dust haze is expected over parts of Kano and Kebbi states, while other northern states will continue under sunny and hazy skies.
“The central region will experience sunny and hazy conditions, with isolated thundery activity in parts of Plateau State during the afternoon and evening hours.
“Southern states will see sunny skies with cloud patches, along with afternoon and evening thunderstorms in Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States,” NiMet further said.
The agency added that on Wednesday, both the northern and central regions will remain sunny and hazy.
“Southern areas will experience sunny skies with occasional cloud patches and prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms, with light rains across Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States,” NiMet concluded.
NiMet warned that dust particles will remain suspended in the air and urged residents, particularly those with asthma or respiratory conditions, to take necessary precautions.
The agency also advised motorists to drive cautiously during rainfall and urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective flight planning.
