As the Easter festive season approaches, the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, has extended warm greetings to all students, teachers, and stakeholders within the academic community.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Commissioner stated that the holiday offers a well-deserved period of rest and celebration, just as he emphasised the importance of maintaining a balance between festivities, personal safety, and academic continuity.

To ensure a productive and secure festive holiday, the HC encouraged students to enjoy the celebrations while remaining mindful of their primary academic goals and personal safety. In terms of Academic Consistency, he urged the students to dedicate a portion of each day to reading and self-study.

In his words, “The Easter break is an opportunity to bridge learning gaps.

Safety and Conduct. Learners should avoid high-risk environments and refrain from engaging in activities that could compromise their health or safety”.

To Teachers, Alli-Balogun said strategic self-development is key as the Easter break serves as a critical window for educators to recalibrate and enhance their pedagogical skills ahead of school resumption. “Educators should utilise this period to finalise assessment strategies, ensuring a seamless transition back to active teaching”.

“Teachers are reminded of their role as guardians; they are encouraged to share resource materials with students to guide their home-study sessions during the break”, he added.

The Honourable Commissioner also warned against any form of academic exploitation and encouraged parents to monitor their children’s progress and safety diligently. “The Ministry will continue to uphold the standards of excellence in education and will not tolerate practices that undermine the integrity of our learning institutions”.

Alli-Balogun reiterated that the holiday is not merely a pause in education, but a shift in the environment of learning. We expect our students to return more knowledgeable and our teachers more inspired.
