21 DEAD AS MIGRANT BOAT SINKS OFF SENEGAL COAST
Agency Report

At least 21 people have died after a boat carrying migrants sank off north-western Senegal in the latest tragedy along the dangerous Atlantic route from Africa to Europe.
The Senegalese Interior Ministry disclosed this in a statement, saying only one person had been rescued in addition to the 21 bodies recovered.
It described the death toll as provisional as of late Saturday, adding that search operations were ongoing and families of the victims were receiving assistance.
Media reports said the boat capsized on Saturday off the Loumpoul dunes in the Kebemer department, between Dakar and the northern city of Saint-Louis.
According to Le Soleil newspaper, most of the victims were from the Leona and Thieppe districts in the same department.
The incident occurred as Senegalese authorities announced on Saturday that they had intercepted 142 migrants, including women and children, aboard a small boat allegedly heading for Spain.
Thousands of people from West Africa have died in recent years while attempting to reach Europe through the perilous Atlantic route to Spain’s Canary Islands.
