The Lagos State Police Command has urged political parties operating in the state to notify it ahead of planned rallies, campaigns, processions and other political activities requiring security coverage.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, made the appeal, stressing that timely notification would enable the Command to conduct security assessments, deploy adequate personnel and make necessary operational arrangements.

He said the measures were essential to ensure the safety of participants, members of the public and the general environment during political activities.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to providing security for all political parties, candidates, supporters and participants without discrimination or preference.

However, it warned that it would not tolerate any action capable of disrupting public peace, threatening public safety or causing a breakdown of law and order.

The police said any political party that failed to provide timely notification or disregarded established security arrangements, thereby contributing to a breach of peace, would be held accountable in accordance with the law.

The Command said the position was also emphasised at the 2027 General Elections Stakeholders’ Security Engagement held on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

At the meeting, political parties and other relevant stakeholders were reminded of the need for cooperation, timely communication and strict adherence to security guidelines throughout the electoral process.

The police also reaffirmed their readiness to provide adequate security coverage for political parties and ensure a safe environment for lawful political activities.

Fatai urged political parties to demonstrate responsibility, cooperate with security agencies and ensure that their rallies, campaigns and other political activities were conducted peacefully and in compliance with the law.

The statement was signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
