87-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRAIGNED OVER ALLEGED ATTACK ON ADAMAWA JUDGE

The Adamawa State Police Command has arraigned an 87-year-old man, Dahiru Garba, for allegedly attacking and causing grievous injuries to an Area Court judge in Fufore Local Government Area of the state.

Garba, a resident of Korawa Village, allegedly attacked the presiding judge of Mayo-Ine Area Court, Hon. Dauda Hamman, with a cutlass while the judge was presiding over a case involving the suspect and one Ismail Yusuf.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the incident occurred on August 31, 2026.

Nguroje said the suspect allegedly struck the judge’s hand several times with the cutlass, causing grievous injuries.

“On 31st August, 2026, there was mild drama at Mayo-Ine Area Court, Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, after an 87-year-old man, Dahiru Garba of Korawa village, allegedly cut off the hand of the Presiding Judge, Hon. Dauda Hamman, with a cutlass,” the statement said.

The suspect was immediately arrested by police operatives following the incident.

The case was subsequently transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Fufore, to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yola, on September 4 for further investigation and prosecution.

Upon completion of the investigation, Garba was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court I, Yola, on Monday, September 8, on a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt, contrary to Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018.

When the charge was read and interpreted to him, the octogenarian pleaded guilty and reportedly blamed the devil for his action, expressing regret over the incident.

The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Ismail Bello Shelleng, ordered that Garba be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility pending further hearing.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Hassan, assured the public that the command would diligently prosecute the matter to ensure justice is served.
