DELTA POLICE RECOVER ABANDONED GUN AFTER ROBBERY ATTACK, ARREST SUSPECTED DRUG PEDDLER

The Delta State Police Command has recovered a locally made firearm abandoned by two suspected armed robbers who invaded a residence in Effurun, while a suspected drug peddler was arrested in a separate operation in Agbor.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the command, the robbery incident occurred at about 5:30am on September 4, 2026, when two masked men armed with a locally made shotgun broke into the residence of a 48-year-old man in the Charlisco area, along the NPA Express Road, Effurun.
The police said the victim confronted one of the suspects and wrestled with him over the firearm, during which the gun broke.
The statement added that the second suspect struck the victim on the forehead before both men fled the scene, abandoning the damaged firearm.
Following a report made at the Ekpan Division at about 6:14am, police operatives were deployed to the scene, where they recovered the firearm.
The victim was subsequently referred to a hospital for treatment, while the command commenced a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the victim for his courage and assured him that the suspects would be tracked down and arrested.
In a separate operation in Agbor, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), Ubulu-Uku, arrested a 40-year-old woman, Joy Anthony, who the police described as a suspected drug peddler.
The command said Anthony was arrested at about 5am on September 6 following credible intelligence.
A search warrant was subsequently executed at her residence in Agbor-Obi, leading to the recovery of quantities of substances identified by the police as Swinol, Tramadol, Codeine, Canadian Loud and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigation continues.
The police urged members of the public with useful information about the fleeing robbery suspects to report to the nearest police station or contact the command’s control room.
