
EFCC PROSECUTES KOGI ASSEMBLY CANDIDATE, ATUMEYI OVER ALLEGED N1.4BN FRAUD AT UNION BANK
On Friday, February 3, 2023, PW1 Olusegun Falola, the first prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of Ismaila Yousouf Atumeyi, a Kogi State House of Assembly candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), informed Justice Tijani Ringim of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, that one of his co-defendants, Abdulmalik Salau, a former employee of Union Bank Plc had once been investigated for various fraudulent practices worth “Hundreds of Millions of Naira” by the PoliceEFCC .
Atumeyi is on trial along with Salau and Ngene Joshua Dominic, for 18 counts related to alleged cybercrime and money laundering totaling N1.4 billion.
Falola, an internal auditor and team lead for general investigations at Union Bank Plc, informed the court during today’s resumed session that Salau worked in the bank’s IT department and had been charged with fraud.
Falola testified under oath as the prosecution’s witness, saying: “He had previously worked for the bank but was indicted in a fraudulent case involving the back-end manipulation of expenses.”
