According to reports, the contestant died after paying N25 million for the Labour Party governorship nomination form.

Chief Humphrey Anumudu, a Labour Party governorship candidate in Imo State, is said to have died in his home.

On Friday, March 24, 2023, Anumudu was discovered dead in his Lagos home after returning from a Labour Party meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

The multi-billionaire politician was born in Mbieri Ancient Kingdom in Imo State’s Mbaitoli Local Government Area.

According to family members, the governorship candidate was found dead in his home after a “spiritual attack.”

Anumudu had been a serial candidate for Imo state governorship since 1998, when he contested for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket and reportedly won but was persuaded to cede the seat to Achike Udenwa, who went on to rule the state between 1999 and 2007.

Since then, he had run for governor of Imo in every election cycle until 2019, when he stood as a candidate for the Zenith Labour Party.

The deceased was said to have paid N25m for the Labour Party nomination and declaration of interest forms for the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Imo.

Anumudu was also a respected legal luminary and the Chief Executive Officer of Globe Motors.
