SUDAN CRISIS: EGPYT GIVES STRINGENT CONDITIONS TO ALLOW ENTRY OF NIGERIAN EVACUEES
After several diplomatic efforts that reportedly involved President Muhammadu Buhari, Egyptian authorities have given a set of stringent conditions that must be met before they can allow Nigerian evacuees pass through their territories before onward airlifting back to Nigeria.
A source disclosed to Hotjist.com that the conditions which must be met by the Nigerian government as follows:
1. a. Details and schedule of the Aircrafts
b. Capacity of the Aircrafts
c. Strong Pledge that once our citizens departs the border, they will be conveyed directly to the designated Airport.
2. Comprehensive List of the Evacuees, with passport numbers.
3. Valid Travel Documents (Passport or ECOWAS Travel Certificate)
4. Presence of Nigeria Government Officials at the points of Embarkation.
5. Standby buses that will immediately convey them to the Airport.
Several Nigerians, majorly students, have been stranded at the Waad Alifah border town in Sudan, since Thursday last week.
Due to diplomatic bureaucracy, the evacuees were not allowed into the Egyptian territory, via the city of Aswan.
Also, a second batch of evacuees who left the Sudanese capital of Khartoum yesterday are currently stuck in the city of Artaba.
The drivers of the buses conveying the evacuees insist that they have not been fully paid and cannot continue the journey until they receive their balances.
The second batch is said to be heading towards Port Sudan which is about 1,750kms away from Khartoum, a journey expected to take two days.
