JUST IN: OPERA STAR GRACE BUMBRY DIES AT 86

Grace Bumbry, an American Opera Soprano singer has died.
According to her adopted son, David Brewer, the American opera soprano Grace Bumbry passed away on Monday at the age of 86 at a hospital in Vienna, where she had decided to call home.
A pioneer for other black women in opera, the mezzo-soprano and soprano were the first black women to perform at the Richard Wagner Festival in Bayreuth in 1961.
Bumbry was born on January 4, 1937, in St. Louis, Missouri, into a musical family. She later pursued training as a vocalist, receiving scholarships along the way.
She had her first concert in London in 1959, and her opera debut was hailed in Paris the following year.
She made numerous additional appearances, with some of her best-known portrayals being Salome in Strauss’ own opera, Lady Macbeth, and Princess Eboli in “Don Carlos.”
