LAGOS POLICE COMMAND REVIEWS STRATEGY ON RECENT SECURITY CONCERNS

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has said that the State’s Command is reviewing it’s strategy in ensuring that crime in Lagos is brought to a its barest minimum while noting that some criminal activities which borders mainly on cases of robbery have been a major concern.
The CP made this known during a press brief at the Police Command in Ikeja on Thursday.
This according to him, is coming after the several complaints received by the command from members of the public on the criminal activities within and around the state while adding that the command has decided to open a complaints response unit.
He noted that the command’s intent to open a complaints response unit is to avail citizens the opportunity to call in while adding that he has launched a state-wide operation designed to identify exact trouble spots, especially along construction areas, and flush out criminals, particularly traffic robbers and other miscreants. The operation code-named Operation Flush commences with immediate effect.
He however, warned all DPOs during a meeting, against dereliction of duty, vowing that any officer found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with laid down rules. He equally charged them to review their respective security architecture towards improving security in their respective AORs and stamping out completely all forms of traffic robbery and other vices.
The Commissioner further added that the police is also monitoring developments in the state ahead of the planned protest by members of the NLC scheduled for August 2nd to ensure it’s not hijacked by hoodlums.
In the same vein, the CP has urged residents and visitors to Lagos State to continue to support the police in the task of fighting crime and criminality by providing prompt information and giving all forms of assistance required of them.
However, CP Owohunwa assured Lagosians that the Lagos State Police Command would continue to partner with the government and other stakeholders towards ensuring optimum safety and security for all and sundry.
Meanwhile, an elephant sculpture has been unveiled at the command’s headquarters in honour of fallen heroes and officers who have paid the supreme price in the cause of serving their father’s land.
