IMPROVED POLICING: IG EGBETOKUN UNVEILS 2000-BED MOBILE BARRACKS

The Inspector General of Police, AIG Kayode Egbetokun, has unveiled a 2000-bed mobile barracks, donated by the Federal Republic of Germany to Nigeria.
The delivery of the equipment, was accepted by Mr. Egbetokun who noted on Friday at the Police College Ikeja parade ground in Lagos, where it was on display, that the donation came at the time it was needed while adding that the Force is now establishing a Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
The Mobile barracks which was donated in order to combat insecurity in Nigeria, comprises of mobile toilets with distinct rooms, bathrooms, mobile military industrial kitchen and mobile tents amongst others.
The Police boss, while speaking at the commissioning, mentioned that, the equipment would help counter challenges of accommodation in all of the police training schools across the nation while trying to eradicate crimes and criminality in Nigeria.
“Our Special Intervention Squad is going to consist of 40,000 men and we intend to deploy at least 1,000 men to each state command.
“We have started mobilizing the squad, we have started selecting our trainers.
“Very soon, 25 of them will travel abroad for training. When they come back, the training proper starts with the 40,000 Special Intervention Squad.
“We are going to deploy the equipment to the training centers. These equipment will provide the immediate accommodation needed at our training centers in Nigeria,”.
“The donation could not have come better than a time like this. It is coming with the aim of stamping out crime in Nigeria.” he said.
Mr. Egbetokun pointed out that with further donations coming in, the equipment will allow training colleges across the nation to train more men while announcing the commitment of Germany to donate more of these tents to the Force.
In addition to thanking the German government for the funding, he urged other countries, donor agencies and groups to lend the Force all the support they can in having an equipped security which will support the agenda of the government in the battle against crime and criminality in Nigeria.
The donation, according to Johannes Lehne, the German ambassador to Nigeria, was made to help the Nigeria Police Force battle crime.
Mr. Lehne promised that his government would continue to support the Force.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tunji Lardner, the Chief Executive Officer, of the Police Reform and Transformation office (PORTO), while speaking, said the idea behind the project is to house police officers at the training colleges across the country.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ayoola Ajala, who played host of the day, commended the efforts of the Federal Republic of Germany while also, appreciating the donor partner for their esteemed support towards the development of Nigerian Police Force.
