MAN DIED AFTER BEING BEATEN TO COMA AT A CAR WASH – POLICE WITNESS TELLS LAGOS COURT

An unidentified man who was allegedly beaten to coma at a Car wash by Mr. Ashiru and his friends has died after 8 days at the hospital.
This was mentioned given by a prosecution witness, Inspector Adeyemo Olubunmi while been cross-examined on Thursday, before Justice Yetunde Adesanya at a Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square.
In his testimony, Adeyemo revealed that the defendant, known as Mr. Ashiru was transferred to the State CID on 29th of April, 2021 by the Ojo Police Divisional IPO and gave his statement that the defendant and some others beat the deceased to a coma before the arrival of the police. He was then taken to the hospital for treatment before being pronounced dead on 26th of April, 2021.
However, in the defendant’s statement, he claimed he was at the scene to wash his motorcycle before an argument arose between him and the deceased. He claimed that he was stabbed with a scissors by the deceased, which led him to go back home to change his clothe because of the blood stain. On getting back, he said to have met his friends there in which he narrated what happened to them and they took a plank and beat the deceased to coma.
“During our investigation, we discovered the deceased truly stabbed the defendant, but instead of him reporting it to the police, he went ahead to mobilize his friends to retaliate. The deceased died as a result of the beating from the defendant and his friends. Bruises were all over his body and was bleeding from his nose and ears”, Adeyemo stated.
He further revealed that the defendant wound was treated at the police hospital before he was taken to the cell.
After listening to the counsels, Justice Adesanya adjourned the case till 25th and 26th of March, 2024 for prosecution to bring in their last witness and continuation of trial.
