Girona on Sunday night continued their incredible start to the season as they defeat Barcelona in the Catalan derby.

Barcelona who now sit 4th on Spanish League Table were unable to find a late response against their Catalan rival as the visitor reclaimed top spot in the table.

It was Artem Dovbyk’s early finish that gave Girona the lead against their lackluster host before Polish veteran, Robert Lewandowski powered home a header from a corner to drag Barcelona level.

However, former Real Madrid defender Miguel Gutierrez rocketed home his first goal for Girona, to re-establish their lead right before half time break.

Barcelona created a string of chances after the restart, but Girona substitute Valery Fernandez capitalised on some poor defending from the host, to clinch victory for his side.

Following Girona’s third goal, Ilkay Gundogan poked home a consolation for Barcelona in added time, but there was no dramatic rally, as Lewandowski missed a key chance in the final seconds, and Cristhian Stuani made it four for Girona.

The match ended up seeing Girona re-claiming the top spot, having accumulated 41 points from 16 Laliga fixtures, with second placed Real Madrid trailing on two points.
