Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda has said that music goes beyond entertainment, describing it as a powerful tool for societal development.
Speaking in the For Bunmi documentary, the “Cash App” hitmaker referred to music as a form of warfare and a force for positive change.
He explained that music serves multiple purposes, including promoting progress, spreading goodwill, and helping people cope with emotional struggles.
“Music is warfare. Music is a tool for the society. Music is a tool of progress. Music is an instrument of goodwill. Music is a tool to keep people sane, to put them in the right state of mind, to make them dance away their sorrow, and to make them feel alive and self-conscious,” he said.
Bella Shmurda also noted that becoming a father has influenced his music, making him more intentional about the messages in his songs.
According to him, he now pays closer attention to the kind of music he releases so his children can be proud of his work in the future.
