LAGOS LIFTS BAN ON RTEAN ACTIVITIES, DISSOLVES PARKS AND GARAGES ADMINISTRATORS’ COMMITTEE
The Lagos State Government has lifted the prohibition on the activities of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in the state, furthering this administration’s efforts to promote harmony and good working relationships among union members in the transport industry.
Hon. Sola Giwa, the Special Advisor to the Governor on Transportation, stated on Monday that the government made the decision following thorough deliberation and engagement with pertinent stakeholders, including the association, the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and members of the public.
The Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators’ Committee, which was established to oversee parks and garage facilities throughout the state, has been dissolved, according to Hon. Giwa.
He clarified that the choice was made in the best interests of fostering harmony and peaceful coexistence, guaranteeing the efficient operation of transportation services within the state, and assisting in the development of a more cooperative relationship between the government and the transportation union, all of which would eventually result in better public services.
In order to ensure peaceful and sustainable operations in the transport sector, the Special Adviser urged all parties to rigorously abide by the terms and conditions of the resolution negotiated.
Additionally, he pleaded with them to collaborate in order to improve the transit system for the benefit of all Lagos State citizens.
Recall that in September 2022, the state government put a halt to RTEAN’s operations throughout the state and established a caretaker committee to manage the union’s affairs.
