OIL, GAS SECTOR: TINUBU INAUGURATES NEITI GOVERNING BOARD

Read Time:1 Minute, 2 Second

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated the newly constituted 15-member National Stakeholders Working Group, also known as the Governing Board of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, on Tuesday.

Tinubu’s economic agenda and anti-corruption initiatives were centered on responsible resource management and openness in the extractive industry, as stated by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and chair of the newly formed NEITI board.

The board was cautioned by the president not to meddle in NEITI’s daily operations.

According to him, accurate data management is the lifeblood of development in the oil and gas sector.

“The present administration is passionate about and remains fully committed to the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, the work of NEITI, and the visible impacts that the EITI process has achieved so far in Nigeria.

“I also need to stress that your appointment is part-time.

“Your appointment as a member of the NSWG is a part-time job, and as members, please note this very carefully to avoid getting involved in issues of day-to-day management, which is the work of NEITI management under the leadership of the Executive Secretary.

“You are, therefore, advised to conduct yourselves by this requirement,” the President stated.
