GOVERNOR MUTFWANG GRANTS STATE PARDON TO PRISONERS
As part of the 2024 Democracy Day celebrations, Governor Caleb Mutfwang used his prerogative of compassion powers to commute the death sentences of three condemned inmates at the Jos Correctional Centre to life in prison.
Six other prisoners had their sentences lowered from their initial imprisonment terms, and four other prisoners received complete pardons.

The beneficiaries were pardoned based on recommendations from the Plateau State Advisory Council, according to a statement from Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs. The governor derived the authority to show mercy from the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution.
The governor highlighted that, in accordance with the advisory council’s recommendations on the prerogative of mercy, the recipients had shown regret for their offences.
