Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade, operating under “Operation Tiger Paw II”, have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered a cache of arms and equipment during a coordinated ambush at the Adankolo Forest Reserve in Lokoja Local Government Area.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Lokoja by the Brigade spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi.

The Army said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to secure key routes in Kogi State, following earlier actions against criminal groups around Obajana and the Agbaja forest.

Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected terrorists, personnel of the 12 Brigade Quick Response Group set up an ambush at a known crossing point within the forest reserve.

According to the statement, the troops made contact with the group and engaged them in a fierce gun battle, killing one suspected terrorist, while others fled into the bush with gunshot injuries.

A subsequent sweep of the area led to the recovery of weapons and various items.

Recovered items include two AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated pistol, six magazines, and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Other items seized include a camouflage bandolier, a Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac drugs, three mobile phones, three power banks, and ₦62,900 in cash.

The Army said the operation underscores its continued efforts to deny terrorists operational freedom and strengthen security across communities and major routes in Kogi State.

It added that troops are currently conducting follow-up operations in the area to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
