BENUE HERDERS ATTACK, POLICE CONFIRM FIVE KILLED

The Police Command in Benue on Monday said suspected herders attacked Egwuma community in Agatu Local Government Area and killed five persons.
SP Sewuese Anene, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development on Monday in Makurdi to the News Agency of Nigeria.
Anene stated that in order to keep the peace, the Command had sent more people to the region.
The incident was confirmed by Mr. Godwin Edoh, a member of the State House of Assembly who represents the Agatu seat. However, he stated that there were only twelve victims.

The lawmaker lamented the ceaseless murders of his fellow citizens and urged authorities to take preventative action to stop the atrocities.
“Government has to be decisive about what to do about this area because it is so porous.
“The Ogbumogbo, Ejima and other villages down to Ikpele, have been deserted for close to one year.
“The herders come over to the deserted villages with their cattle for grazing in the morning and leave in the evening.
“They are able to do these, because the villagers had left their communities for fear of attacks and the security agents are not doing enough to address this development,’’ he said.
