SHAIBU DENIES CLAIMS OF POSSESSING 22 OFFICIAL CARS AS EDO DEPUTY GOV

Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Philip Shaibu, has denied the claim by the State Government that he was in possession of over 22 official vehicles.
Reports revealed that following his removal as Deputy Governor by the Edo State House of Assembly, the State Government had earlier this month, through the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, issued a 7-day ultimatum for him to return over 20 vehicles in his possession.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Shaibu, who has since returned to the APC shortly after his reinstatement by the court, stated that all the vehicles in his convoy belonged to him except one Jeep the governor bought for him in the third year of their administration.
The Edo State Deputy Governor said he was being subjected to the worst treatment by a principal he served sincerely and diligently.

He said, “You know human beings have different ways of behaving, and the only perfect person is the Almighty God. Every other person created by God is imperfect. But at the same time, God gave us commandments, like every other country’s constitution.
“One of the greatest commandments in the world is to love your neighbor as yourself. If all of us adhere to that commandment, there would be peace in the world. Because what you cannot do to yourself, you would not want to do to others.
“I used to use the term ‘perfect relationship.’ But I have discovered that there is no perfect relationship, given what has happened between the governor and me.
“From my end, I gave everything. I gave my all to ensure his success because, for me, it is about the state and its well-being. So, I gave up my earnings, including official entitlements. I forfeited many of my official entitlements because I didn’t want any trouble or disagreement.
“The easiest way to have disagreements could be money. Even my official entitlements, many of which I didn’t apply for, were not claimed.
“For instance, I did not receive the 28 days’ leave, which is the first earning for any civil servant or government official, in the first and second terms. I did not apply for anything related to personal or official entitlements. I confined myself to the official salary that came to me.
“Recently, I saw an advert stating that I should return 22 vehicles. Only one vehicle in the seven and a half years was bought by the governor for my convoy.
“Every other vehicle you see in my convoy, some of which I used, including the Land Cruiser with the Coat of Arms and flag as a staff car, the Prado used as a backup, and the Hilux from the State Assembly and House of Representatives, were either personal or official property.
“It was during the third year of his first term that the governor eventually bought a Land Cruiser Jeep. Even when the Land Cruiser Jeep was being delivered, it had an accident en route.
“We had to change the wheels, and it took two weeks to fix it. A new car that was being brought to me took two weeks to fix. The convoy of a Deputy Governor was never made an issue because, for me, anything that could bring trouble, I managed.
The Edo Deputy Governor said the APC would return to the Government House next September to save the South-South state from the vice grip of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
