EDO POLICE COMMAND CALLS FOR COOPERATION TO AVOID STAMPEDE
The Edo Police Command has called on state government representatives and other organizations to work with the police in distributing palliatives in order to prevent a stampede that would cause death or serious injury to state residents.
The guidance became required to ensure that palliatives were provided in an orderly and chaos-free manner, according to a statement released Sunday evening by Moses Yamu, the command’s spokesperson.
The statement reads, “Following recent cases of stampedes leading to avoidable deaths in some parts of the country, the Edo State Police Command has proactively called on government officials, community leaders, religious bodies, and non-governmental organisations to collaborate with the state command for a comprehensive and organised way of going about the distribution of any palliatives.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ozigi Umoru, therefore warns groups and organisers of similar events to ensure they involve the Police or other security agencies to avoid such occurrences in the state.
“The Command remains committed to always ensuring the safety of lives and property.
Remember last Wednesday when at least 35 children were killed in Oyo State? 22 people lost their lives in Anambra State on Saturday, and 10 people lost their lives in Abuja, where over 1,000 people congregated at a church to collect food and clothing palliatives.
