STAMPEDES: MUSWEN COMMISERATES WITH OYO, ANAMBRA, FCT, URGES PROPER CROWD CONTROL
The Muslim Ummah Of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), has commiserated with the Oyo State Government and its people over the death of 35 children who died during a stampede at a funfair.
MUSWEN in a statement dated Friday, December 27, signed by its Executive Secretary, Prof. Muslih ‘Tayo Yahya, FAR, FASN, also called for proper crowd control in similar future events.
Similarly, the group also expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families of the recent stampedes at food distribution events in Anambra States, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) – Abuja.
The statement reads, “We commiserate with government and the people of Oyo State over the death of over 35 children, which sad event occured on Wednesday, 18th December, 2024 at a funfair organised for children, which held at Islamic High School, Orita Basorun, Ibadan.
“It is very disheartening that, an event which was organised with a good intention of helping less-priviledged children eventually ended on a sour note.
“We pray to God Almighty, to console those who lost their loved ones and also, the government of Oyo State over the loss of lives of those innocent children.
“We also implore those who may be planning events of large magnitude to always take all precautionary measures, by providing for medical emergencies, adequate security, and proper planning for crowd control.
“We also send our condolences to the government and the good people of Anambra State; Minister and the good people of FCT over the similar losses they suffered arising from stampede, may God Almighty console them.
“We beseech Allah (swt) to help avert situations that bring grieve to our land and save us from all calamitie, Amin”, it concluded.
