WORLD NEWS: US AIRLINE CAUGHT FIRE AFTER DIVERTING TO DENVER, 12 INJURED
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that a Boeing aircraft operated by American Airlines caught fire after landing at Denver International Airport in Colorado on Thursday.
The airliner told local media that there were six crew members and 172 passengers on board.
In a post on social media site X, Denver International Airport stated that while all passengers were successfully evacuated from the aircraft, 12 individuals were transported to hospitals due to minor injuries.
As rescue personnel arrived, passengers were standing on a wing, and billowing smoke was visible around the jet on the ground close to the terminals in dramatic video shots that were extensively shared on social media.
The FAA said the Boeing 737-800, flying from Colorado to Dallas-Fort Worth, diverted to Denver International Airport after the crew reported experiencing “engine vibrations.”
“After landing and while taxiing to the gate an engine caught fire and passengers evacuated the aircraft using the slides,” the FAA said in a statement.
The latest incident comes amid safety concerns after a series of incidents and attempts by US President Donald Trump’s administration to cut costs at US aviation agencies.
The FAA said it will investigate the latest incident.
