The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has reaffirmed its commitment to responsible and sustainable wastewater management by taking action against a three-storey residential building in Ilasan, Lekki Peninsula II. The building was found to be illegally discharging untreated wastewater and sewage into public drains using a pumping machine.

The environmental violation came to light following a tip-off from a concerned whistleblower. The pump, typically operated at night, was used to release raw sewage onto roads, drains, and nearby lagoons, posing serious health risks to residents through the spread of communicable diseases.

LSWMO’s General Manager, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, stated that the state maintains a strict stance against environmental pollution. He reiterated the agency’s unwavering efforts to ensure a clean and safe environment to protect public health.

Engr. Afolabi further warned that any property or facility found violating environmental laws will face penalties as outlined in the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.

He commended the whistleblower for their vigilance and urged Lagos residents to support government efforts by reporting similar incidents. He encouraged the public to contact the agency via phone at 08022022397 or through its social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter @lswmomedia. He assured that all reports will be treated with confidentiality.
