The Nigeria Police Force has announced the rescue of 12 trafficked children from an illegal and unregistered motherless babies’ home operating within a residential apartment in Aba, Abia State.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Monday that two suspects were arrested in connection with the illicit operation discovered at Ikot Ekpene Road in Aba. The rescued children, aged between six months and 14 years, were reportedly taken from various villages in the Arochukwu area.
The children have been transferred to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for appropriate care and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, the suspects remain in custody and will face prosecution upon conclusion of investigations.
In a separate development, the Kogi State Police Command intercepted a green Sharon vehicle after it dangerously evaded a security checkpoint. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into the surrounding bush, prompting a swift search operation by police operatives.
Inside the abandoned vehicle, officers discovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 283 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, 62 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and two rounds of 7.62x59mm ammunition.
Preliminary intelligence links the recovered weapons to a recent armed robbery at a fuel station in Kabba, Kogi State, which remains under active investigation. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts against trafficking, illegal arms proliferation, and all forms of organised crime across the country.
