The Delta State Police Command has arrested two men, Patrick Asini (34) and Tega Ojo (20), after a viral video surfaced showing them smoking what appeared to be marijuana atop a police patrol van and hurling obscene gestures at law enforcement officers.
The controversial footage, which quickly gained traction on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), shows one of the suspects sitting on a patrol van marked “Nigeria Police Force Anti-crime Patrol, Oghara Division” while openly smoking. In the background, voices can be heard mocking the police, including one saying, “Tell them, f\*\*\* the cops, bro. Pass me some weed, man,” while flashing a middle finger at nearby officers.
The video, believed to have been filmed at a car wash, triggered public outrage and led to swift action by the Delta State Police Command.
Confirming the arrests via his official X handle on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the suspects were apprehended and several incriminating items were recovered.
“The two suspects, Patrick Junior Asini, aged 34, and Tega Ojo, aged 20, in the video, have been arrested. The following exhibits were found in their possession,” Edafe wrote.
Among the recovered items were an army khaki uniform, green beret, face mask, axe, cutlass, six smartphones, four laptops, marijuana, weed grinders (crushers), and Rizla rolling papers—commonly associated with cannabis use.
SP Edafe reiterated the police’s commitment to enforcing the law while emphasizing mutual respect between citizens and law enforcement, stating, “Police is your friend. It just depends on how you interpret it.”
The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
