TRAGEDY IN ONDO: 26-YEAR-OLD MAN KILLS AND BEHEADS 17-YEAR-OLD BROTHER IN ODIGBO COMMUNITY

Grief and outrage have gripped the agrarian town of Odigbo in Ondo State following the gruesome killing and beheading of a 17-year-old boy by his elder brother, Daniel, aged 26.
The horrific incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Odigbo Local Government Area, and has since left residents in deep shock. According to community sources, the suspect and the deceased were sons of a serving police officer in the area.
Although the motive behind the murder remains unclear, local speculation points to possible ritual undertones. Some residents alleged that the act may have been for money rituals, given the gruesome manner in which the body was mutilated.
Eyewitnesses reported that after committing the act, Daniel placed his brother’s severed head in a bag and hid it near the Origbara River. His actions were spotted by a passerby attempting to cross the river, who immediately raised the alarm.
Community members swiftly mobilized and apprehended Daniel, dragging him to the town center where he was beaten to a state of unconsciousness. He was later taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.
One resident, Roland Akinkunmi, described the moment of discovery: “I saw Daniel holding a human head. At first, I didn’t realize it was his brother’s because I was in shock. Their father is a respected police officer here. Nobody understands why he would commit such a horrific act.”
Reports indicate the siblings had a minor quarrel earlier that day, but residents insist there may be deeper, more sinister reasons behind the killing.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Ondo State Command, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a full investigation.
“The case has been directed to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further and discreet investigation. The Ondo State Police Command assures the public that no stone will be left unturned in unravelling the circumstances behind this tragedy,” Ayanlade said.
