Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has reiterated his administration’s dedication to justice, security, and harmony throughout the state, with intentions to enlist over 1,000 young individuals into the community security initiative, Operation Rainbow.

In a statement released on Monday by the Press Directorate on X, it was noted that Mutfwang made this commitment on Sunday at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Jos during the initiation of the 2025/2026 Legal Year.

The ceremony, attended by judicial officials, clergy, and legal professionals, marked the official commencement of the judiciary’s calendar.

“The God who has sustained us so far will uphold us in the days to come,” the governor remarked, characterizing the event as one of gratitude and renewal.

Contemplating the challenges faced by the judiciary, he lauded judicial officials for their tenacity despite limited resources.

“When we took office, we encountered a judiciary burdened by several challenges. Yet, you have remained resolute, performing your duties with bravery and integrity,” he observed.

The governor revealed that measures have been implemented to enhance the welfare of retired judges.

“We have undertaken significant actions to improve their circumstances by initiating the payment of their outstanding benefits. While the process is ongoing, it has commenced and, by God’s grace, will be finalized,” he affirmed.

Mutfwang also advised judicial officials regarding the exercise of discretion.

“Judicial discretion utilized wisely serves the causes of justice. However, discretion misused will weigh heavily on an individual’s conscience, preventing them from standing before their Creator,” he cautioned.

Regarding security, he announced the expansion of Operation Rainbow, the state-supported community policing initiative.

“By the grace of God, we will shortly recruit over 1,000 youths who will be deployed back to their communities as both the primary and ultimate line of defense, complementing traditional security forces,” he stated.

He emphasized the necessity to resist “those who capitalize on insecurity. ”

Mutfwang underscored the importance of unity among Christians as a crucial element for Plateau’s advancement.

“The body of Christ is united, and what connects us is the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary,” he expressed, while extending gratitude to the Catholic Bishop of Jos and the parish priest of St. Theresa’s for hosting the service.

Reaffirming his commitment to governing with courage and transparency, the governor declared, “We possess no agenda other than to enhance Plateau beyond what we inherited. Though there may be obstacles in our path, by the grace of God, we shall prevail. ”

Delivering the homily, Very Rev. Fr. Paul Pam, Parish Priest of St. Theresa Catholic Church, emphasized the significance of spiritual life for Christians.

“Genuine peace rooted in Christ provides hope and direction,” he stated, urging believers to adhere to God’s will, reject wickedness, and embrace righteousness.

He prayed for Nigerian leaders, asking God to “open their eyes to the challenges facing the nation and to guide them toward solutions for the liberation of humanity. ”

Fr. Pam also commended the governor for his initiatives in infrastructure and peacebuilding.
“Divine reward shall be bestowed upon your endeavors. Your dedication to cohesion and initiatives across all domains of the economy is truly commendable,” he further stated.

In his statements, the Chief Justice of Plateau State, Justice David Mann, conveyed his appreciation for divine safeguarding of the judiciary over the preceding year and offered prayers for wisdom, direction, and protection for both the Bar and Bench as they embark on the new judicial year.
