The Nigeria Police Force Command in Kano State has arrested six suspects and recovered three stolen tricycles and five motorcycles in separate operations aimed at tackling rising incidents of vehicle theft across the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Kiyawa, who confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, said the breakthrough was achieved through coordinated intelligence-led operations by the Criminal Investigation Department.

According to him, the arrests followed swift police responses to multiple distress calls and reports from residents.

“The Command achieved remarkable breakthroughs in its fight against crime with the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of stolen tricycles and motorcycles. These efforts reflect our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents,” Kiyawa stated.

He explained that on October 14, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m., two suspected tricycle thieves 44-year-old Nura Ibrahim of Gaskiya Layout, Zaria, Kaduna State, and 22-year-old Sunusi Bala of Gusau, Zamfara State were apprehended by residents along Airport Road, Kano, while attempting to steal a tricycle.

The suspects were rescued from mob action by police officers and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries. Investigations revealed that the duo had hired a tricycle rider, administered intoxicants to him, and attempted to steal the vehicle before the victim raised an alarm.

Kiyawa added that the same suspects had earlier used a similar method to steal five other tricycles. Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, operatives traced and recovered two additional tricycles in Funtua, Katsina State, which led to the arrest of two accomplices, 46-year-old Bashir Muhammed and 48-year-old Sunusi Musa.

In a separate operation on October 10, 2025, operatives arrested 34-year-old Umar Isah at Na’ibawa Quarters following reports of persistent motorcycle theft along the Kano–Wudil Road. Three stolen motorcycles were recovered from him.

Similarly, on October 15, 2025, a tip-off from a resident led to the arrest of 28-year-old Idris Isyaku at Na’ibawa Flyover, where two additional stolen motorcycles were recovered. Both suspects confessed to buying and receiving stolen motorcycles.

Among the recovered items were three Bajaj and TVS tricycles (yellow in colour) with and without registration numbers and five motorcycles, including Companion, UD, Boxer, Motor B, and Ladies models.

Kiyawa urged anyone who has lost tricycles or motorcycles to contact the Investigating Police Officer via 07010161372 or visit the Public Relations Office at the Command Headquarters with proof of ownership.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station to support ongoing security efforts.
