“I’M SAFE BUT STILL IN CUSTODY” — ALOY EJIMAKOR SPEAKS FROM KUJE PRISON
Abuja, Nigeria – Human rights lawyer Aloy Ejimakor has confirmed that he remains detained at Kuje Prison following his arrest during the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Ejimakor assured supporters that he was “safe and sound” while raising serious concerns about how his arrest and remand were handled by the authorities.
He wrote:
“I am safe and sound but still under custody at Kuje prison. The Magistrate refused to listen to our submissions. He insisted on remanding us till Friday and got his way.”

Ejimakor also claimed that the authorities deliberately routed his case to a specific magistrate court in Kuje, bypassing several other courts in the area. “For context: Keep in mind that they bypassed several Magistrate courts in town and headed to this one in Kuje,” he stated.
Ejimakor, who represents Nnamdi Kanu, was arrested on Monday during a protest led by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, calling for Kanu’s release.
In a separate context, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, criticised Ejimakor’s participation in the protest, saying it undermined legal ethics given that Kanu’s case remains before a competent court.
