TINUBU GIVES SURVEYOR-GENERAL TWO-YEAR TENURE EXTENSION TO DRIVE LAND REFORMS
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a two-year extension for the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Abdulganiyu Adebomehin, to sustain ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s land management and geospatial data systems.
The extension, which takes effect from January 5, 2026, follows Tinubu’s move to bring the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF) under the direct supervision of the Presidency to improve oversight and coordination of national mapping and land administration.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the decision reflects Tinubu’s commitment to modernising the country’s land framework, strengthening infrastructure planning, and leveraging geospatial data for economic growth.
Adebomehin, appointed in 2022 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, has led several initiatives, including digitising land records, developing national mapping systems, and supporting key federal projects such as highways, erosion control, and land reclamation.
Onanuga noted that the extension would enable Adebomehin to consolidate and complete these programmes, particularly in land management, infrastructure coordination, and environmental sustainability.
Under Adebomehin’s watch, OSGOF has expanded its digital mapping role for major projects and tightened coordination among agencies to streamline shoreline and land-use approvals.
The Presidency said the move aligns with Tinubu’s broader vision to enhance inter-agency collaboration, curb land disputes, and create a transparent national land database to guide development and investment decisions.
