The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has declared its readiness to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.

The state PDP Chairman, Issa Bawa, made this known on Sunday while receiving National Assembly aspirant Saheed Popoola at the party secretariat in Ilorin.

Bawa said the party would strictly follow due process and internal democracy in the selection of its candidates, stressing that only credible aspirants would be fielded for elections. He noted that the party operates clear rules and would not impose candidates arbitrarily or allow individuals who could undermine its image.

He praised Popoola for his loyalty and discipline, describing him as a trusted party member whose conduct stood out among aspirants.

Bawa expressed confidence that the PDP would reclaim power in 2027, citing growing support from youths, women, and stakeholders across the state, particularly in Offa. He described the area as strategically important to the party’s electoral prospects.

He further urged other aspirants to emulate Popoola’s approach, noting that ambition should not be “do-or-die” but should reflect respect for party leadership and processes. According to him, fairness and transparency would guide the selection process to ensure that all aspirants are treated equitably.

Bawa also expressed support for former Senate President Bukola Saraki, expressing optimism that the party would return to power in the state. He added that the PDP would regain what it lost in previous elections and return to the Government House in 2027.

Earlier, Popoola formally declared his intention to contest a National Assembly seat under the PDP, pledging loyalty to the party and its zoning arrangements. He said his ambition was driven by a desire to promote development, empower constituents, and strengthen representation for Kwara South.

Overall, the party leadership reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy and a transparent process ahead of the 2027 elections.
