The Lagos State Signage & Advertisement Agency (LASAA) has launched a formal investigation into one of its staff members following allegations that official payments were being diverted into a personal bank account.

The probe was triggered after a social media user flagged activity on X, claiming the agency collected payment via a personal account instead of the authorised channels. According to the whistle-blower, customers were required to pay ₦45,000 for signage fees but received receipts reflecting only ₦7,100 — with the balance apparently not recorded in the official system.

On receiving the alert, the Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the individual implicated is a recognised LASAA staff member. The Commissioner ordered that the officer report immediately to LASAA headquarters for disciplinary action.

In a statement, Wahab emphasised that the Lagos State Government “has zero tolerance for misconduct” and urged citizens to assist in exposing such practices.

LASAA, which regulates outdoor advertising and signage in Lagos, operates under a cash-less payment policy to ensure transparency. It reiterated that the public should avoid making payments outside authorised channels and remain vigilant against unofficial transactions.

The agency has warned that the investigation will not only determine the scope of the alleged misappropriation but also hold accountable anyone found to be involved or complicit.
