ANAMBRADECIDES2025: POLICE DEPLOY AIR SURVEILLANCE TO BOLSTER SECURITY DURING GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION
By Aishat Momoh. O.

The Nigeria Police Force has intensified air surveillance operations across Anambra State as part of measures to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election taking place across 5,718 polling units.
This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who said the operation forms part of a comprehensive security strategy aimed at safeguarding voters, election officials, and materials throughout the exercise.
Ikenga explained that the aerial patrols are being conducted in close coordination with ground troops, marine operatives, and tactical units strategically deployed across the state.
“The air surveillance teams are mandated to monitor movement patterns, detect suspicious gatherings, and provide real-time intelligence support to ground commanders for swift operational response,” the statement read in part.
He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force remains neutral, professional, and fully committed to protecting all citizens, electoral officials, and observers during the poll.
“The public is encouraged to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel performing their lawful duties,” Ikenga added.
He further assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to guarantee the sanctity of the ballot, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that every eligible voter exercises their civic right without fear or intimidation.
Reports from various polling units across the state indicate that voting has commenced peacefully in several wards.
