POLICE BUST SEX TRAFFICKING SYNDICATE IN ONDO, RESCUE 15 YOUNG WOMEN

The Ondo State Police Command has dismantled a notorious sex trafficking syndicate that allegedly exploited young women under the guise of job recruitment and social media content creation.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Akure by the command’s spokesperson, Olushola Ayanlade.
According to Ayanlade, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit arrested the prime suspect, Jayeola Joshua, along with two others, while 15 young women aged between 20 and 26 were rescued from an apartment in the Alagbaka area of Akure, where they were being exploited.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate lured victims from different parts of the country with false promises of lucrative employment opportunities, including domestic work, ushering services, and overseas placements.
“The victims were manipulated into sending nude images and videos, which were later transmitted to clients procuring sexual services,” Ayanlade said, adding that the syndicate disguised its operations as producing “relationship content” for social media to conceal its criminal intent.
He noted that the victims have been taken to the Police Hospital in Akure for medical care, psychological evaluation, and counselling.
Ayanlade further disclosed that the apartment used for the illicit activities was specifically rented for the purpose, prompting the Commissioner of Police to invite the landlord for questioning.
The case, he said, has been transferred to the Command’s Gender Desk for further investigation and reintegration of the victims.
The Commissioner of Police directed that all suspects be charged to court to reinforce the command’s zero-tolerance stance on human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
He urged parents and guardians to thoroughly verify job offers and recruitment agents before allowing their wards to travel, while calling on the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to help prevent crime in the state.
