WIKE’S ALLY KINGSLEY CHINDA WINS RIVERS APC GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARY ELECTION

BY JENN NOMAMIKUKOR
Kingsley Chinda, who is part of the House of Representatives, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination for governor of Rivers State for the 2027 elections.
He was a former minority leader in the House and the only candidate in the race.
On Thursday, Bitrus Kwamoti, head of the election committee, announced that Chinda was the winner of the APC’s primary election in the state.
Kwamoti said Chinda, who represents Obio/Akpor federal constituency, secured 268,497 votes. After the exercise, Chinda, who is a supporter of Nyesom Wike and serves as the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said that if he becomes the governor, he will lead with “fear of God and respect for the rule of law.”
He added, “The people of Rivers should expect sincere governance and proper accountability.
A peaceful and progressive Rivers state is returning,” he said.
On Wednesday, Siminalayi Fubara, the current governor of Rivers, Tonye Cole, a businessman, and Dax George-Kelly, a former commissioner for works, decided to step back from the APC governorship primary.
Fubara said he stepped down from the primary contest out of conviction and sacrifice for the state to move forward in peace and unity.
Last week, the APC screened Fubara and Chinda for the APC gubernatorial primary. Fubara looked very sad as he left the screening event and refused to talk to reporters, which made people guess that the committee had rejected him.
The APC screening committee rejected many of Fubara’s friends in the Rivers state assembly race but allowed those who supported Wike to move forward.
Fubara and Wike have been fighting over power for a long time, and this situation led to efforts to remove the governor from office.
Most of the Rivers lawmakers who endorsed the impeachment process against Fubara are Wike allies.
The FCT minister had vowed to oppose Fubara’s re-election bid after accusing the governor of violating the peace agreement they both signed at the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
