POLICE ARREST TEENAGER FOR ALLEGEDLY STABBING 20-YEAR-OLD IN CROSS RIVER

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the alleged stabbing death of a 20-year-old man, Uwem Daniel Akpan, in Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday and made available to journalists in Calabar.

According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, following a misunderstanding at Peters Street, Awi community, in Akamkpa LGA.

The police said Akpan was rushed to the Naval Reference Hospital in Calabar after the incident but was pronounced dead by medical personnel. His remains were subsequently recovered by his family.

The statement added that the 16-year-old suspect had been arrested and remained in police custody as investigations continued into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death and the suspect’s alleged involvement.

The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar for further investigation and appropriate legal action.

The police spokesman urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands, assuring that the Command would conduct a thorough investigation.

Eitokpah said further information would be released as the investigation progresses and more facts emerge.
