POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT AFTER KILLING OF MEDIA PERSONALITY, ANOTHER IN AWKA

The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the assailants who allegedly shot dead popular master of ceremonies and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as “Azia Nwosu,” and another unidentified man in Awka, the state capital.
The two victims were reportedly killed at separate locations in the city on Sunday night by three unidentified gunmen travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla.
According to the police, Nwosu was shot along S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka, while the second victim was attacked along Capital City Road, Amaenyi.
The motive for the killings had yet to be established as of Monday, although residents and eyewitnesses suggested that the attacks could be connected to cult-related activities.
An eyewitness alleged that the assailants trailed Nwosu from his residence before double-crossing his vehicle and opening fire. The attackers were also said to have shot another man by the roadside and dispossessed him of his belongings before fleeing.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command had intensified efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Ikenga said the attackers reportedly shot two people at separate locations within Awka before fleeing the scene.
He said police operatives, upon receiving a distress call, mobilised to the affected areas and recovered the bodies of the victims.
The victims were taken to a hospital, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.
Ikenga identified one of the deceased as Isaac Nwosu, also known as “Azia”, while the identity of the second victim remained unknown.
The police recovered N7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers from the scenes of the attacks.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, condemned the killings, describing them as unacceptable and a threat to the peace and security of the state.
Ama directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
He also ordered operational and investigative units to intensify efforts to identify and arrest those responsible.
Following the attacks, the commissioner held a two-hour closed-door meeting with the command’s strategic and operational officers to review intelligence gathered from residents and strengthen security measures across Awka and adjoining areas.
Ama said the meeting was aimed at strengthening security operations, sustaining the fight against violent crime and ensuring the perpetrators were brought to justice.
The commissioner also visited Nwosu’s family to offer his condolences, describing the deceased as an asset to the state whose contributions would be greatly missed.
He said Nwosu had supported the police command’s security advocacy initiatives and other activities aimed at promoting peace and security in Anambra.
Ama reassured residents that the command would pursue the investigation with determination, while urging members of the public to provide credible information that could assist in tracking down the suspects.
He added that patrols, surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations had been intensified across Awka and neighbouring communities to prevent further attacks and apprehend the perpetrators.
