Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has dismissed reports of a fire outbreak on its campus, describing the claims as false, misleading, and intended to misinform the public.
Dr. Johnson Akintayo, the university’s Associate Vice President of Communications, Media, and Branding, made the clarification in a statement released to newsmen on Thursday.
The statement emphasized that the alleged indefinite postponement of the second semester resumption is entirely untrue. Students are expected to return to campus as scheduled from Monday, January 12, 2026, in accordance with the university’s academic calendar.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there was no fire incident in any of the campuses of Babcock University. Our campuses are safe, secure, and fully prepared to receive students as scheduled from January 12 to 14, 2026,” the statement read.
The university also cautioned against the spread of misinformation, urging the public to rely solely on official communication channels for accurate updates.
“The University operates well-defined and verifiable channels of communication for students, parents, staff, and the public. Official decisions are never communicated through anonymous or unofficial platforms,” the statement added.
Babcock University reaffirmed that the resumption date previously communicated before the first semester holidays remains unchanged, and advised students and parents to disregard the fabricated reports circulating online.
