Abeokuta—An Ogun State High Court sitting in Ota has denied bail to controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, following his arraignment on multiple criminal charges.

Portable faces a nine-count charge including assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest. The trial judge refused to grant bail, noting the absence of the police officer allegedly assaulted during the incident. The court emphasized that the officer’s presence was necessary before any decision on bail could be made.

The singer was subsequently remanded in custody, with the matter adjourned to January 19 for a hearing on his bail application.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, the charges stem from a complaint reportedly filed by Portable’s estranged partner, Ashabi Simple. He was brought before the court on Monday after his arrest over allegations linked to a New Year’s Day incident at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area.

Prosecutors allege that Portable attacked Ashabi, several police officers, and other individuals present at the scene. He is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million, reportedly belonging to complainant Ileyemi Damilola and registered under Wally Dex Auto dealership.

During the proceedings, two of Ashabi’s siblings testified for the prosecution, recounting the alleged assault, while Ashabi herself was absent. The police further claimed that Portable obstructed and assaulted a female officer, Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was performing her official duties.
