LAGOS GOVERNMENT TARGETS RESIDENCES UNDER POWER LINES IN ALAGBADO/OKE-ODO

The Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority (LASISMA) is preparing to demolish houses located beneath high-tension power lines in Alagbado/Oke-Odo along the AIT Road corridor, the Lagos State government announced on Tuesday.
According to the statement, LASISMA officials moved into the Alagbado/Oke-Odo area to address serious physical planning violations, specifically targeting structures built directly under—or dangerously close to—high-voltage lines.
The operation followed direct orders from the Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Olumide Oluyinka, as part of a state-wide initiative to restore urban order and prevent avoidable disasters.
The exercise was led by TPL Emmanuel Seyi Ogunyemi on behalf of LASISMA’s General Manager, TPL Daisi Oso. Ogunyemi and his team served contravention notices to occupants and physically marked buildings encroaching beneath the high-tension lines.

During the exercise, property owners were instructed to relocate their structures away from the hazardous corridor. Officials emphasized that the operation was not merely bureaucratic but aimed at safeguarding human life.
The LASISMA team stated that the action is necessary to protect lives and property, minimize environmental hazards, and ensure compliance with the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law 2019 (as amended).
TPL Ogunyemi reiterated the agency’s commitment to proactive monitoring and enforcement, warning that structures under or too close to high-tension lines pose serious safety risks to both residents and the surrounding community.
To strengthen the initiative, LASISMA extended the operation to include local authorities, holding discussions with the leadership of the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area. The team met with LCDA Chairman Abiodun Jimoh Ejigbadero to promote collaboration between state and local authorities, encourage proper land use, and support sustainable growth in the community.
Ejigbadero welcomed the initiative and pledged his administration’s full cooperation to prevent the area from becoming overrun with illegal structures. “Our administration is ready to work closely with LASISMA and other relevant agencies to ensure orderly development and urban aesthetics across the LCDA,” he stated.
This enforcement operation is part of LASISMA’s ongoing efforts to uphold planning standards across informal urban spaces in Lagos, with the ultimate goal of ensuring safety, order, and improved visual appeal for all residents.
